Overview
Our academic level is ideal for students new to the field of Graphic Design. For the entry level student, there are three options, a one or two year Diploma courses and also a 3yr Bachelor of Arts Degree, BA (Hons) in Design issued in collaboration with the University of Chester. Student’s not qualified creatively or without perfect language skills may enroll for the 1yr Diploma and may later try and qualify for the BA through additional study. The one year course is a basic but intensive two (2) semester course that addresses all of the fundamentals of the Graphic Design students develop an understanding of color and composition, design, typography, and drawing. Graphic Designers are creative, imaginative and excel in the conception of two dimensional imagery. Graphic design basically is visual problem solving using text or graphical elements. Graphic designers are leaders in some of today's most dynamic fields such as advertising, publishing, television, and visual communications. They generate the visual presentation and design of goods, including websites, magazines, book covers, corporate stationery, television graphics, and billboards. Students already with degrees in design may qualify for our Master's level
Graphic design ACADEMIC LEVEL- 1ST SEMESTER
1 YEAR (30 WEEKS)
GDV 101 Graphic Design Studio (Double Weight)
The course is a basic but intensive introduction of the graphic design process. The studio design course is an introduction to graphic design theory and its application. The course rapidly moves from to the fundamental design principals, to the process of planning, to the final guidelines for the creation of resolved two-dimensional art work.
CD 145 - Intro to Design Principles
The course introduce students to the basic elements of design and outline the general context and concepts of the design world. Students will investigate; color theory, geometrical and organic shapes, perspective, scale and texture. The course will also include guidance on the fundamental principles of creative thinking.
VIS 110 – Analytical Drawing
The courses provides a complete exploration to the art of hand drawing utilizing pencil, ink, and charcoal with the objective of mastering shading, contour, gesture, and perspective techniques. The coursework follows a series of studies that introduce basic drawing techniques, media, and composition through examination and study of ordinary forms.
GDV 175- Typography - 3 Credits
This course investigates visual identity concentrating on how typography and letterform contribute to the formation of the graphic language. The art of designing with type, including the planning of typeface, size, composition, and page layout. This course explores the fundamental principles of typography and its integral role in visinual graphics.
HUM 150- Art History 1 - 3 Credits
This two part course begins with the Florentine art dating from the end of the 1200’s. This course covers the most key artists practicing in the region of Tuscany from the 1300’s, until the early 1500’s. The course covers historical, social and political events and analyzes their influence on the artistic production. Many class sessions are held on-site in the form of field trips to museums or churches to enhance the in-class lectures.
HUM 120- Italian Language 1A - 1 Credit The courses will focus mainly on spoken conversational Italian, with themes relating to common life, travel and business travel situations including greetings, days of the week, asking for directions, food, making plans, telling time, purchases and dealing with money and numbers.
Graphic design academic level- 2nd semester
GDV 102 – Graphics Design Studio 1b (Double Weight)
An investigation of more advanced graphic design. Projects assigned during the second semester involve comprehensive problem solving from concept development through to the final presentation stage.
GDV 175- Typography 2

HUM 151 Art History 2 - The second part of the course begins with the early 1500’s and continues past the Mannerist movement of Michelangelo. Students are explained the major artistic developments of the centuries from the ideal classical form into the complex era of the Counter Reformation. Many class sessions are held on-site in the form of field trips to museums or churches to enhance the in-class lectures.

HUM 121-Italian Language 1b - 1 Credit
The courses will continue to focus mainly on spoken conversational Italian. This more advanced level class will start to deal with general work and business discussions.

ACADEMIC LEVEL-2ND and 3rd year
The second year and third year of the Academic level are much more thorough in exploration of design concepts. Larger projects are developed with a more detailed approach to creative problem-solving and the ability to offer solutions that are effective in the business of commercial graphics.
