Semester Abroad

 

STUDY ABROAD IN FLORENCE ITALY
Semester Length: 15 weeks. Study Abroad for undergraduate credit


The department accepts students who have completed their second year of a design program and have consent of their department chair. Study abroad students can choose to study in either the Spring or Fall semesters. In most cases students should be in a degree program of Interior design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design or Architecture.

In order to transfer credit from the Florence Institute study abroad students must obtain approval from their home institution. The Florence Institute is accredited though the Region of Tuscany, delegated by the Ministry of Education, (Accreditation n. FI0531). All courses must be completed with a grade of "C" or better for credits to transfer.

The cost of tuition with enrollment for a single semester (15 weeks) is 3950€ (taxes included).

Study Abroad in Italy

STUDY ABROAD
The main focus of the semester abroad option is to provide a specialized dimension to the field by the understanding of Italian design through investigations into history, theory, analysis and methods. The location of the program is essential in illustrating the relevance of Italy in forming the foundations of modern thought and concepts. Courses are all taught in English by faculty members resident in Italy. Although no previous knowledge of Italian is required, it is recommended that students begin study of the language before arriving in Italy. During the study abroad semester, language study is offered to all study abroad students enrolled for 1 hour per week.


GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
A. Study abroad students will gain significant cross-cultural benefits by expanding their knowledge and appreciation of Italian/European society.
B. Students will apply develop design concepts to real modern day problems that address and are integrated into to city situations.
C. Develop an understanding and working knowledge to meet specific client needs including additional requirements of Italian/European populations.
D. Research, graphic communication, written/oral presentation, appropriate materials, finishes and furnishings for the presentation of design solutions.

BASIC STUDY ABROAD REQUIREMENTS:

Requirements for study abroad semester students applying to the Florence Institute of Design International ::

1. Students should be at least 18 years of age.
2. Students who have completed their second year of a design program and have consent of their department chair may study abroad with us.
3. Students need to submit most recent transcripts with their application.

 

Students should contact us for a 'Course Approval Form' and course listing to be then compled by the director at their current university and submitted together with their application.
