Transportation From the Florence airport (FLR):

There are a number of ways that you can travel from the airport to the centre:

The new tram line connects the train station of Santa Maria Novella, right in the heart of the historical center, to the Florence airport for €3.


-Taxis- can be picked up from outside the airport. There is a flat rate charge of €23 euros to anywhere in the city centre.

Private cars can be pre-booked) Blucar car service - www.blucarservice.it/ - for €50. There is often times UBER Black as an alternative

-Coach - Terravision run a bus from both Pisa and Florence airports, to the city centre (Santa Maria Novella train station) at regular intervals:www.terravision.eu


Transportation within the city:

Taxis
Taxis cannot be hailed on the street, unlike many other world cities. However, there are taxi ranks in most major squares throughout the city, as well as at the station.  

Buses
An extensive bus route network runs throughout the city, with very frequent stops. Tickets can be bought at most tabacchi’s in the city. Always stamp your ticket when you get on the bus, as they are subject to regular inspection and if they are not stamped correctly, you will have to pay a large fine.

Travelling out of the city
Coaches/Buses
ATAF and SITA are the main coach lines that run throughout Tuscany and some lines throughout Italy. Their main stations are close to the central Santa Maria Novella train station.

Trains in Italy
Trains depart from Santa Maria Novella train station for all parts of Italy, including the Eurostar trains (which need to be pre-booked).  *Always* stamp your ticket in the yellow boxes on the platforms to avoid a fine. Before travelling by train, it is always wise to ensure that there is no strike (ask at the station two days before hand).
