Art History and Italian Language with the Florence Institute |
Renaissance Art - 2 1/2 hrs
This course covers the most key artists practicing in the region of Tuscany from the 1300’s, until the early 1500’s. Students are explained the major artistic developments of the centuries from the spatial discoveries of Giotto, to the reinvention of perspective drawing, and how this led to the return to the classical era. The course covers historical, social and political events and analyzes their influence on the artistic production of the time. |

Italian Language - 1 hr+
We also combine the History of Art courses with Italian language – a chance to build confidence and understanding of one of the most beautiful languages in the world, from the basics to the more advanced levels. A development of knowledge of the language can help you to enjoy the culture and customs of Florence and Italy even more. There is also a 2nd optional hour of a more advanced level included in the program.

Analytical Drawing – 2 1/2 hrs
The courses provides a complete exploration to the art of hand drawing utilizing pencil, ink, and charcoal with the objective of mastering shading, contour, gesture, and perspective techniques. The coursework follows a series of studies that introduce basic drawing techniques, media, and composition through examination and study of ordinary forms.

You can choose to study with us for a semester of 14 weeks starting in September or January. Our courses are all held in English, and are for 7 hours* per week, divided between lectures at the Institute and field trips.
The course is priced at €1200, with full fees to be paid 20 days in advance of the course start date.
Please note that until full fees are received, no place is guaranteed as places are very limited.
Financial aid is not available for the art history program.
This course option is open only to EU citizens or residents, course hours will not permit a student visa.
On arrival students can purchase a discount card for museums for €20, and should allow approximately €50 for other trips throughout the semester. The Florence Institute can advise on a range of housing options – the most economical option is to share with other students, and for this we advise that it will cost in the region of €450 per month plus expenses per room. Please see our Student Life section or contact us for more information. We are also able to send detailed information to Careers Advisors in your school, should you request it.
