February 6th,2010: Made Expo
Milano Architettura Design Edililizia (MADE) is an exhibition for building and interior design and architecture. On show are classic and design items, cutting edge products, natural and innovative materials and the most advanced technologies in design. This exhibition gives the students an unparalleled opportunity to explore and experience global architectural and interior design and meet industry professionals from around the world.
January 11th 2010: Start of the 2010 Year
December 18th 2009: Student Reception
A student reception celebrating the end of the semester of the Florence Institute was held in the beautiful lounge restaurant ‘Angels’. Professors gave closing remarks to the graduating class followed by a champagne toast with refreshments.
November 13th 2009: The years’ second student exhibition was held in May at Sei Divino and showcased the work of the first and second semester students, from both the Graphic and Interior disciplines. The exhibition opened with a champagne toast to the students and the success that they had achieved in creating an exhibition demonstrating their work and projects.
October 29th 2009: Guest lecturer, Arch. Andrea Ponsi
Arch Andrea Ponsi is a leading authority on the relationship between ecology and architecture, and his professional activity includes urban furnishing projects, commercial interiors and preparing exhibitions. His work has been the subject of a number of publications and exhibitions in Italy, the USA and South America. He was the winner of an international competition for the building of the Palos Verdes Art Centre in Los Angeles, and has taught architecture and planning at a number of universities including the University of California in Berkeley, The Technion Institute in Haifa, Israel, and the University of Toronto. He has also published a number of monographs on his design activity.
October 14th 2009: Visit to Siena furniture factories
Poggi Bonsi near Siena, is famous for its’ furniture design. The students spent the day in Poggi Bonsi visiting various factories of steel, wood and upholstery. They were explained the technical process of furniture making and enjoyed a Tuscan lunch at a traditional restaurant.
October 3rd 2009: Visit to Cersaie, the international exhibition of ceramic tile and bathroom furnishings in Bologna. Cersaie demonstrates ceramics, bathroom furnishings, and materials and visitors include architects, interior designers and ceramic experts from around the world. Students had the opportunity to broaden their knowledge of materials and furnishings to be used in future projects.
September 7th 2009: Start of the 2009-10 Academic Year.
May 22nd 2009: Student Reception – A student reception celebrating the end of the semester of the Florence Institute was held in the beautiful Sala dei Angeli. Professors gave closing remarks to the graduating class followed by a champagne toast with refreshments.
May 8th 2009:Student Exhibition
An exhibition at the wine bar ‘Sei Divino’ showcasing work from the Graphic and Interior Design Students. The exhibition opened with a champagne reception and Arch. Marc DiDomenico toasted the students of The Florence Institute of Design International.
April 23rd , 2009: Salone Internazionale del Mobile
Salone Internazionale del Mobile held in Milan, showcases furniture from around the world. It includes all types of contemporary and classic furniture as well as accessories for interior design.
March 4th 2009: Visit to Siena furniture factories
The students were shown around the furniture factories and learnt about the entire process of manufacturing contemporary furniture, from the design to the construction. The trip allowed the students to explore an important aspect of interior design, and see the uses of different materials in furniture design.
